Lamb update

lamb1We originally started feeding the lamb from a bottle bought from the chemist. Special powdered milk can be bought and is mixed at a ratio of 250g of powder to 1 litre of water. The problem with this was that the bottle could only hold 250ml and sooner the lamb was wanting more – drinking up to a litre a day. There was also the problem of him wanting about 4 feeds a day as he couldn’t drink much at a time. The solution was to buy a bucket fitted with a valve and a teat. The teat that comes with the bucket is more durable than theĀ  normal baby teat that the lamb had managed to bite through. The bucket holds up to 8 litres of milk and it means we can leave her for a couple of days without having to refill the bucket.

  1. Younger lambs are smaller and more tender. Mutton is meat from a sheep over two years old, and has less tender flesh. In general, the darker the colour, the older the animal. Baby lamb meat will be pale pink, while regular lamb is pinkish-red.
