Cuke Ridge Cucumbers
उत्पाद आईडी: cuke
उत्पाद विवरण
These are ridge cucumbers. They are some heirloom seeds given to me by a neighbor several years ago. We have used the name Cuke because that is what I put on the labels. They are very abundant. They are never bitter.
How to Grow:
When: Cucumbers don't like the cold so they can only be grown in the warmer months. They can be grown outside after mid May. (when the minimum temperature is over about 14C) They tend to die of the cold so the last sowing would be about mid July or the start of August.
How to sow: It is best to sow the seeds into modules about 1 cm deep. You can also plant them into large flowerpots about 8cm apart and dig them out with you finger on planting. I suppose you could also sow them where they will eventually grow. You should plant them out when they get 2 real leaves. To have a continuous supply over the summer I do one sowing as early as possible in mid March and another one about 6 weeks later.
Where to Grow: You could let them sprawl over the ground but I tend to let them climb up supports.
Ground Preparation: I dig in some chicken manure into the ground before planting.
Harvest: The cucumbers are very prolific and it is best to pick them often.
Ideas: I normally have too many cucumbers to eat. Last year I cut them up and dried them. In the winter when I want to eat them I put the dried cucumbers in a jar with vinegar and a spoonful of sugar. There are plenty of complicated recipes for dried cucumbers on internet but my simple method works just fine.
