उत्पादन वर्णन
Waltham Butternut Squash must be the most favourite butternut squash. They are very easy to grow and success is just about guaranteed.
The are excellent in a variety of dishes. They store fairly well. After they are harvested in September it may even be possible to be still eating them the next May.

How to grow:
Butternut squashes don't like the cold.
I plant the seeds in plastic modules in mid April
Depth: about 1cm.
When they have 2 real leaves I plant them out.
It is best to have a butternut squash patch and I plant each plant about 1 metre apart.
It is a good idea to put a fork full of manure under each plant making sure that the very young plant is not in direct contact with the manure. They will grow like crazy and form a large green area which will suppress all weeds.
By September you should have lots of butternut squashes.
Around mid September I cut the squashes off the vine. For good storage you must leave a few centimetres of stalk attached to the squashes.
Leave them in the sun for a few days and they will dry out and harden.
Store them in a cool place and most of them will last until at least March of the following year.
Remove any of them which go rotten. You can fry up the seeds or give them to your chickens. Chicks will also eat the soft ones.
