Banana Peppers
Product ID: banana_peppers
Product Description
Banana peppers (also known as the yellow wax pepper or banana chili) are easy to grow. These ones are about 12 cm long. They have a mild, tangy taste and are not hot at all. These ones are bright yellow, they change to orange as they ripen.
Raw banana peppers contain 92% water, 5% carbohydrates, and negligible fat and protein. They are rich sources of vitamin C, containing 100% of the daily requirement in a 100 gram portion. They also have a lot of vitamin B6.
How to Grow
How to sow: I normally spread the seeds over a couple of 20cm diameter flower pots and then sprinkle some more soil over them to bury them about 4mm. Peppers need some heat to germinate so put them in a warm place. They probably need over 20C to germinate.
How to grow: I transplant the seedlings into little pots when they get to about 4cm high. Make sure that the seedlings get lots of light otherwise they go all spindly. I bought a whole load of 12cm diameter plastic pots where they can grow strong. Once you have a good strong plant and the weather is nice and warm I plant them into their final position. You should maybe look at a couple of you tube videos about ways of pruning them so that they make a better framework for making lots of fruit. As I live in a hot place I don't know much about growing peppers in greenhouses. But peppers like it as hot as possible although they are OK if they have a bit of shade. I plant them about 40 or 50 cm apart.
